I didn’t download a map to my phone for this hike because I was able to find a guide map searching through the internet. I posted a picture that I took of the map at the trail head. This is description number 73. The parking lot is at 34.8745976,139.0160809, and the trail starts right across the street.
Me and my son did this hike together on December 31, 2016. What a great way to send off 2016 and start 2017. The weather was clear and sunny. There was no snow at the parking lot, but as we climbed, there were a few inches, getting a little deeper the higher we got. There were steep sections of trail where the snow had been compressed by other hikers, which turned it into ice. I didn’t bring crampons, but I had my hiking sticks, we just took it slow.
We followed the yellow loop, which crosses the peaks of Banjirodake and Amagi. There was no view from the top of either peak because of the trees, but I found the hike to be pleasant anyway. That could probably be attributed mainly to my company. My son is an excellent hiker for his age. He doesn’t complain that he’s hungry or tired. He respects nature. I wish that I was that mature when I was 7 years old.
